The name Francesca means free. And this Francesca needed to be free from both the shelter and her heartworms. Francesca is a one to two-year-old Bassett Hound mix who arrived at the Sampson County Animal Society shelter in Clinton, North Carolina, on August 5th. The house where Francesca and her family lived was destroyed by fire. While no one was harmed, the fire left them homeless. The family had three dogs and nowhere for them to go, so all three dogs were surrendered to the shelter (Francesca was known as "Fire Dog" at the shelter). While the other two dogs found rescues, Francesca had no rescue interest because she was heartworm positive.
