Meeka only recently got her name. She used to be named Erica, but in the spirit of second chances, she earned a new name to go with her new life. A nine-year-old Boxer mix, Meeka arrived at Duplin County Animal Services in North Carolina on April 11th, when her owners surrendered her for allegedly nipping at a child. Being a senior dog, Meeka’s case is not uncommon, as some dogs are more prone to nipping as they get older. Sadly, she also tested heartworm positive. In a high-kill shelter, Meeka had little chance of surviving without help.
