​The sad saga of September started on the last day of August. After getting a call from a concerned neighbor, animal control seized September for being neglected. She was taken to the Surry County Animal Control shelter in North Carolina. Four-year-old September, a Shepherd-Hound mix, had spent her entire life in an outdoor kennel without any socialization or vet care. She was missing an eye, was full of parasites, had mange with a secondary skin infection, was emaciated and, of course, heartworm positive.
