Thank goodness that the old expression “can’t see the forest for the trees” didn't apply to this Forest! When he arrived as a stray at the Vance County Animal Control shelter in North Carolina in early May, he was emaciated. It looked like Forest had been on his own for some time and had not fared well. Despite his rough life, he was super affectionate. But deep in the Forest lurked a life-threatening menace: heartworms. This one-year-old Pit Bull mix would only be safe in the shelter until May 12th, after that date Forest could be euthanized at any time.
