Little Miss Melly is a delightful six-month-old Labrador Retriever mix who had the misfortune to end up in the Rocky Mount Animal Shelter in North Carolina. This is a high kill shelter, and Melly’s life was on the line.
Thanks to the heroic efforts of the rescue group SPCA Alliance of NC (one of RADAR’s partners), a family was found to adopt Melly. It sounds like the end of the story, and a happy one at that. But there was just one slight problem: the adopters are in Rhode Island and Melly is in North Carolina. The next available transport was three weeks away, the rescue had no available fosters (please foster!), and Melly faced euthanasia at the shelter.
