Looking so sad, dejected and lonely, Carmel was a ward of the Franklin County Animal Shelter in North Carolina. She was taken there as a stray on January 5th. Approximately eight years old and a Beagle-Hound mix, it was clear that she had been on her own for quite some time. It was also possible that she had been abused since she flinched when anyone reached to pet her. Carmel had few teeth left, was malnourished, had cataracts and poor muscle mass in her back legs. She also had callouses on her hind quarters and elbows, probably from spending most of her life on concrete. Because of her condition, she was only available to a rescue. And, she had to be out by January 26th or be euthanized.
