Alyssa is derived from the name of the flower alyssum, which in Greek literally means not insane, as alyssum was thought to cure insanity. And it would have been insane not to help Alyssa! A one-year-old Collie, Alyssa arrived as a stray at the Aiken County Animal Shelter in South Carolina on September 28th. Also arriving with Alyssa was two-year-old Collie Plymouth. It was bad enough that these two dogs were in a high-kill shelter, but even worse that they both tested heartworm positive. The shelter will not allow heartowrm positive dogs to be adopted, so their only hope was for a rescue commitment.
