In the card game of life, James was a discard. This very sweet gentle boy, a four-year-old Labrador Retriever-Chow Chow mix, was surrendered by his owner to the Aiken County Animal Shelter in South Carolina on November 10th. This facility is a high-kill shelter with annual intakes in the thousands. The deck was stacked against James even more when he tested heartworm positive. Aiken County regulations deem that heartworm positive dogs cannot be adopted. James had two choices: euthanasia or get pulled by a rescue.
