​Ramona means "protecting hands," and that's just what this two to three-year-old Shepherd mix needed. Ramona arrived at the Sampson County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on July 6th. While we don't how or why she ended up at the shelter, it was obvious that Ramona had a very rough start to life. She had a previously broken leg and pelvis that were never treated, so she walked with somewhat of a limp. Most likely it was due to being hit by a car since she also had a diaphragmatic hernia. If that was not enough, x-rays showed that she had been shot with BBs numerous times. But wait, there's more: She was also heartworm positive!
