Brewster Cogburn, dog of true grit, rode in to the Aiken County Animal Shelter in South Carolina on February 10th as one of 12 hoarded hounds and a posse of cats. Brewster had heard that the fuzz were coming to round everyone up because their elderly owner would be moving to a nursing home. But the only fuzz Brewster knew was on a tennis ball. That’s what happens when your tag says “U.S. Marshmallow!” Unfortunately, Brewster, a two to three-year-old Labrador Retriever mix, was unable to protect himself and half his kennel mates from heartworms. The only way he would leave the shelter alive would be if a rescue took him.
